Deaths of women in prison

Below is the breakdown of deaths of women in prison by year since 1990. There were also two self-inflicted deaths of transgender prisoners held in all-male prisons in 2015 and one similar death in 2016; two of the self-inflicted deaths listed below (in 2006 and 2016) were of transgender prisoners held in all-female establishments.
