Casework Service

Talk to our casework team
You can talk to our casework team in confidence about your individual case. They will be able to provide you with support and advice and guide you through the initial stages of the investigation

Some of the issues covered will be:

Legal Representation
A caseworker will discuss with you how important it is to have legal representation, they can either work with your existing solicitor or put you in contact with a member of the INQUEST Lawyers Group. The INQUEST Lawyers Group represents over 100 solicitors and barristers based across England and Wales. Many of them are leading human rights practitioners with a depth of knowledge and experience of working on inquests and other related legal procedures. They will also be able to discuss the issues of funding with you.

Post Mortem Examination
In some cases a second post mortem will be needed and we can suggest pathologists for independent post mortems.

Support
Many of the people who come to our casework team for help and advice have been bereaved in similar circumstances. We can put you in touch with others who are going through the same experience. We also organise occasional family forums where families can come together for mutual support and to discuss their experiences.

Going to Inquests
In some cases a case worker will attend the inquest with you.

Coming to the Lawyers
In some cases a case worker will come to legal meetings with you and support you through this process.
